OLIVIA PALERMO my fashion idol got hitched this weekend, and she did not disappoint. For months her dress has been a source of speculation. This is the lady who has been dressed in almost every designer from Cavalli to Valentino, who was actually touted as the eventual designer. But this weekend all the questions were answered: the bride wore Carolina Herrera.
In keeping with her preppy-with-a-twist style, Palermo chose a classic full-skirted silhouette, but what looked like a very traditional gown was actually a light cashmere sweater and tulle skirt, worn over delicate coordinating shorts. My favorite part of the ensemble was the shoes, which also ticked traditional and quirky boxes, being the same Manolo courts that Carrie Bradshaw married in at her civil ceremony for the Sex and the City movie, (not bought especially for the occasion, but in fact an old favorite) and also provided her essential “something blue”.
The couple kept things low key with only a handful of family members in attendance and took place in a quiet park tucked away in New York.
“We really wanted to keep this beautiful day very private and special to us and enjoyed the whole day with our family and two friends,” Palermo said of the ceremony. “Bedford is such an amazing and romantic countryside.”
For those of you who were hoping for a much more elaborate couture confection – this is “part one – the civil ceremony” the couple noted. Lets see what part two has in store
